Finalists Confirmed

The top five franchises heading into the finals series of the lucrative Bemobile Cup competition have been secured after today's round of matches. There's still the last round to played next weekend but that would not have much bearing on the finalists.
It is for sure that Agmark Gurias now on 20 points will come out as Minor premiers with SBS Muruks to finish fifth. It doesn't matter if they win or lose. The Middle spots are due to fluctuate and will be determined after completion of the last round.
Muruks were fortunate enough to escape pressure from surrendering their Premiership title prematurely, thanks to their victory and the Viper's loss.
Vipers had better points differential compared to Bombers and Eagles, who were all on 7 points heading into the games today. Unfortunately, their loss essentially puts them out of the race.
Although, Bombers won, they have to win next weekend with more than 90 points and hoping that Muruks loose to make the finals. This is very least likely so they can also be ruled out alongside Eagles.

Mioks fly over Muruks

Favourites SBS Mendi Muruks received a surprise blow from the Toyota Enga Mioks last Sunday at the Lae Rugby League Grounds. Despite recent media speculation of crisis within the club administration, the Mioks played as never before thrashing the Lae-based Mendi Muruks 18 points to 7 in front of a jam packed crowd of supporters.
Just four minutes into first half, Muruks winger Sova Milfred crossed the line to grab the first four pointer of the game. The try came as a result of classic footwork and ball handling by the Muruks backline in the likes of hitman such as Jesse Joe Parker. Conversion kick from Andrew Sam's mighty right foot added the extras setting the Muruks clearly on the front. The Mioks were able to add a two pointer after the referee awarded a penalty against the Muruks due to a high tackle on a Miok's player. Just before half-time, Muruks were able to register a point bringing their score to 7 leaving the Mioks trailing behind with 2 points.
However, the tide changed in the second half with Mioks scoring three tries courtesy of winger Amoi, half-back Mai Tom and Terry Tapako. The Mioks continue the onslaught denying the Muruks points in the second half with very tough defence and ball security.
It was a moment of joy for the Enga Mioks supporters when the full time siren wailed.
Staunch rugby league follower and Enga Governor Hon.Peter Ipatas was the proudest man on the grounds to witness his boys displaying some of the best and finest rugby league skills beating the reigning premiers, SBS Mendi Muruks 18 points to 7.

Bombers Upset Vipers

The Vipers hope for a finals football was quashed when the cellar dwellers, ATCL Bombers humbled them with a 10-4 victory.
The Bombers win forced an interesting turn for the bottom four franchises after Muruks, Vipers and Eagles all losing their respective games. Had the Muruks won, they would have comfortably cemented the fifth spot on the competition ladder with two games remaining before the finals playoff. However, their loss means they are still on fifth spot with nine points, only two points ahead of the bottom three who have mathematical chances of making the top 5, pending the results of the remaining two rounds.
Vipers fielded an unusual starting lineup especially the forwards and a couple of positional changes to the backs. Most of the regulars came-off the bench.
The first twenty minutes was ordinary with both sides displaying flamboyant football and several handling errors. Vipers were the first to score before the bombers followed to level 4-4 going into half-time.
The second half was brutal with exchanges of barnstorming runs and line breaks from both sides but neither came up with points until the final minute when Bombers scored right under the sticks to seal the match.

One Last Hope for the Eagles

It is the time of the year when finals football momentum is knocking on all doors for the semi professional Bemobile cup teams vying for a spot in the final five in October.
For Mount Hagen Bintangor Eagles; coming from a 22-12 loss to the hands of Masta Mak City Rangers in Madang last week really gives a hard time for the last year’s runner up and the game against Agmark Rabaul Gurias this weekend is set as one final hope for the Kanges.
It will be a Kange verses Kange match seeing several high profile players like Rodney Pora, Kot Kerua, Larsen Marabe, Dion Aiye and George Moni initially from Hagen left in wonder for greener pastures.
Eagles’ captain James Emm knows well that this game is a must win or face exited from finals campaign and he will rely heavily on his little general Skipper Mel, Kumul forward Benny Pamunda, George Baker, Seth Angra and up and coming star winger Tiger Amere.
A loss to the Gurias may spoil the Kanges finals hope therefore this game is set to go right down to the wire.
CIVAPC/NCD Vipers are in the same boat as Eagles and needs to win this match against shallow dwellers ATCL Lae Bombers in the local derby.
